May 2012 Gigs

2011 here we come...

Anyone who follows me on Facebook or Twitter will have some idea about how busy I’ve been lately. My schedule has left me with little time to write blogs, so I thought, with the year drawing to an end, I should attempt a roundup of what’s-going-on-and-what’s -in-store for 2011.

Most days, I get up around 6a.m., do an hour of training to get the endorphins flowing, before spending at least twelve hours in the studio, working on one of the numerous projects currently in development.

There are four main album projects on the go, and it’s my hope to have at least three new albums finished and released over the next twelve months. Most likely, these will be The Pacmen’s debut album (a collaboration between myself and Alex Kane); Mojosa’s debut album (a collaboration between myself and bluesmeister Paul Evans); and my third, as yet untitled, solo album. In addition to these three projects, a new Apes. Pigs and Spacemen album is also in production.

The Pacmen album is well under way. Alex and I are going to be tracking vocals and guitars in FFG studios in Cheltenhamfrom 27th December, and I am currently spending every waking hour to ensure everything is ready for when we get together. After recording is completed, there will be a fair amount of post production stuff to do, followed by mixing, so I would say a March/April 2011 release is feasible.

The Mojosa album is also taking shape. Paul Evans has been laying down some tasty slide guitar, and the backbones of a number of tracks are already recorded. I’m hopeful that I’ll get some time to focus on this album whilst putting finishing touches to the Pacmen album. I can’t predict a release date on this one, but I am hoping it will be out before next summer.

The state of play on my third solo album – I have a number of songs in the early stages of production, lots of material written, and, should things go according to plan with the aforementioned albums, then it will become my primary focus from the middle of next year. It’s probably ambitious to hope to have it released before the end of 2011, but that is my current plan!

And then will come the fourth album from my band Apes, Pigs and Spacemen. Bassist Bart and I have been talking about making this album for a long time, and can’t wait to get on with it. We’re also excited at the prospect of working with Pitchshifter’s Jason Bowld, who will be playing drums on the album. Unlike the Pacemen, Mojosa and third Miro album, the forthcoming AP&S album does have a title: Human Zoo. You will, however, have to wait longer to hear it!
